TBR Jar - What is it? How does it work?

A main element of Bookshany revolves around the TBR Jar and the challenges contained within.

For those who are not familiar with a TBR Jar, it is a jar that contains strips of paper, hand written or typed by the maker, that relates to her/his/their To Be Read pile of books.

On a regular basis, a strip of paper will be taken from the TBR jar, and the instruction on the slip will be followed by Bookshany, and by any of the readers of Bookshany who want to join in as well. You can join in by commenting on any of the slip threads or join our goodreads group! https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/179527-bookshany

Reading List Challenges Vs TBR Jar Challenges

A reading list challenge is a pre-set list of books that you work your way though, the biggest reading list challenge I know of is the Rory Gilmore (of Gilmore girls) reading list... and the most common one is the '50 books to read before you die' which you can get as an engraved bookmark in Waterstones book shop chain in the UK, where as a TBR jar is a collection of handwritten slips which are drawn at random, then you follow the instruction, so you might get something like 'read a 2015 début novel' or a straight book title or a themed instruction like 'the colour blue' so you go find a book that has a blue cover or the word blue in the title, and so on.

NB All books used for TBR challenges are available from all major book shops and online from the usual sources, with the rare exception of rare or antiquarian books, in which case, this will be indicated in the relevant posts.
